Awesome Conversation

After church yesterday I was talking with one person who completely disagreed with everything that I said, well maybe not everything but a fair bit. I loved it. I was talking about Noah as a hero and this person said that Noah was not a hero to him, in fact Noah was just somebody that God used. He also said that he would like to see more questioning because the scriptures at time seem to be all one sided and made a valid point that sometimes scriptures, being that people did have a hand in writing them only put in their side of the story.

We do live in a time where many people are struggling with the scriptures and religion and leaders like myself do not speak about the struggles enough. I know for myself sometime I miss the struggles for a neat little message. For those of you who are reading this and were not at the same church or any church yesterday, I was looking at how Noah had stayed faithful with God while others where walking away from God right left and center, becoming evil and using violence. Yes I know that description could very well fit with today's world. Yet through all of this Noah stayed faithful and did not succumb to the pressures of the people around him. Noah was just an ordinary fellow who God did use. All Noah did was be faithful.

One of the struggles with this passage of scripture is the fact that God just ups and decides to wipe out all the living creatures and people on the earth. How many of us think that is fair? What does this say about God? Do we want to follow a God who ups and changes his mind about the things that he has created? All of these questions are important to wrestle with and if we are honest with ourselves, we will be uncomfortable with the answers.

The conversation reminded me that I have some growing to do as a communicator and that it is good for all of our spiritual growth to wrestle a lot more with what the Bible is saying.
